The young label Dondup was founded as a jeans label in 1999 in the small town of Fossombrone in the Italian region of Marche. The valley in which the small town lies is characterised by the blue cotton fabric and is also commonly referred to as "Denim Valley" due to the denim manufacturers that are based there. The founding couple Massimo Berloni and Manuela Mariotti are responsible for the international success of the brand, which has not only gained a fan base in Europe, but also across the ocean in America. The label name Dondup was conceived in reflection of the name of a Tibetan monk whose teachings state that every person is born equally, and that only the actions of each individual truly make a difference.
The growth of the fashion business over the past few years not only increased the production volume, but also made the assortment more multi-faceted.
