This shoe is the perfect mediator between smart and casual: the desert boot. A shoe model that effortlessly conveys casual chic without appearing too sporty, and that is suitable for a stylish combination with your leisuretime wardrobe or a relaxed business look. Desert boots are a variation of the so-called chukka boots.
These are mostly made with sturdy leather upper material – often suede – and come with a sole in plastic or leather. These shoes were established in the market by the British company Clark in the 1950s and are still highly popular to this day. The origins of this lightweight and simple footwear is far removed from Great Britain: In 1944, Nathan Clark was stationed with the British army in Burma, when he noticed the boots worn by some of the soldiers, who had purchased them at a bazaar in Cairo.
Upon his return to his family-run shoe factory in the UK, which had by then been operating for over 125 years, Clark brought back some initial designs for the later desert boot. Nathan Clark is so convinced of the success of his new design that he makes the desert boot the flagship shoe of his family business, setting aside all criticism of his peers – the success of his company has proven him right to this day. Desert boots look great in combination with chinos or jeans, as they are true all-rounders in terms of a casual yet chic look.
