The first shoemakers settled in the English county of Northamptonshire in the Middle Ages. The same long-standing tradition is behind the established shoe manufacturer Crockett & Jones. When two brothers-in-law, James Crockett and Charles Jones, founded the business in 1879, Charles already had a family history of shoemaking, spanning at least three generations. Among Crockett & Jones’ first employees were Charles’ siblings and wife. By 1900, the business needed more space: a small studio turned into a factory, equipped with novel sewing machines for shoes that had only just been invented by Charles Goodyear – and the second generation took the reins.
As international competition intensified, the brand decided to focus even more heavily on the exquisite quality of the shoes – which remains a unique selling point of Crockett & Jones to this day. In the 1970s, Jonathan Jones, the great-grandson of Charles Jones, worked for the label and led it to worldwide success. Crockett & Jones supplied their high-quality shoes for three James Bond films in the time that followed. Stylish business shoes, casual loafers, smart Chelsea boots and classic Derby and Oxford shoes continue to leave the factory after two months of handiwork. The exceptional quality of the fine calfskin leather, intricate details and comfortable soles are tangible in every pair of Crockett & Jones shoes.
