Officine Générale: The New Parisian Chic for Men
Pierre Mahéo founded his label Officine Générale out of necessity: He wanted to design the kind of fashion he would have chosen to wear himself, in authentic Parisian style, but whose production did justice to his ethical and sustainability values. Inspired by the fashionable impressions that his two grandfathers made on him, his collections combine Parisian chic and clean urbanwear: One grandfather was a tailor and never left the house without a three-piece suit and tie; the other was an oyster fisherman who wore work shirts and a raincoat. Mahéo internalised both approaches to fashion to such an extent that he skilfully fuses them in his designs. When it comes to colours and patterns, he is largely reserved, so the shirts, T-shirts, jackets, trousers and jumpers from his collections can be styled not just with one another but also through the different seasons – the hoodie with a smart-casual jacket, the checked shirt with jeans and a blouson. The authenticity and accessibility of this approach made Officine Générale a rising star in the fashion sky: founded in 2012, Mahéo has since opened his own stores in Paris and London. Uncomplicated, wearable men’s clothing is one of his criteria for his label: To stay true to his values, he wanted fashion to be sustainable and the price justified. He chose just a few countries as places of origin and production sites, and production has remained regional. The high-quality fabrics come exclusively from the UK, Italy and Japan and are ethically produced in Portugal. The high quality of the materials and the sophisticated fusion of timelessness and personality make a statement against short-lived trends.
