Inspired by the Japanese concept stores in Tokyo, the two founders of Maison Kitsuné decided to launch their own brand in 2002: Fashion, music and café under one roof; an overall concept based on a contemporary ‘Art de Vivre’. These converts to the fashion industry have kept their nonchalant attitude. Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki met in the nineties, in Gildas' record store where the “cool kids” hung out. Masaya worked in the skater shop next door. The fact that fashion and music are crucial elements of popular culture fitted with the idea of adding a fashion line to their own record label Kitsuné. The designers call the style of Maison Kitsuné ‘effortless French’ – relaxed Parisian chic, a clean, sporty preppy look in French, where quality, passion and authenticity come to the fore. The fox logo is like a mascot that sometimes appears as portrait stitching and sometimes as a minimalistic patch or who has different urban adventures on Maison Kitsuné sweatshirts and T-shirts. The collection is enhanced with accessories and sneakers. Everyday life, travel, art, films and Japanese ‘nerd brands’ are reflected in Maison Kitsuné’s designs.
