Ludwig Reiter boots for men: The shoe brand offers Maronibrater boots as well as Norwegian-style boots made from Juchten leather, a type of leather tanned in a specific way from calves and cattle or made from hydro suede. All feature a classic Norwegian cut and are lined with a sturdy sole. Available in colours such as black and mocha, these highly functional boots can be worn with a wide range of outfits. The classic Ludwig Reiter Norwegian shoes: In addition to Norwegian-style boots, the brand also offers traditional Norwegian shoes that impress with their look alone. The Scotch Grain leather used, a high-quality embossed calfskin characterised by its distinctive, grainy surface structure, is one of the factors that gives these shoes their appearance. Added to this are the stitching, which emphasises the character of the shoe, as well as the welted construction and the Salzburg last with a special all-terrain sole. Wear these classic shoes with designer woollen trousers for men, a turtle-neck jumper and a designer coat for men.
Ludwig Reiter dress shoes for men: Inspired by the full brogue, the Budapest shoe was created, which you can also find in the Ludwig Reiter range. The striking wing tip with perforated embroidery, in Derby style and with open lacing, has a look that is both minimalist and chic, combining practicality and design.
Ludwig Reiter men's shoes generally correspond to standard European sizes. However, the fit may vary depending on the model, as different lasts and manufacturing methods are used. Some models tend to be slightly larger, while others are more narrowly cut. For more information, please refer to the size guide on the product page in the BRAUN Hamburg online shop.
Ludwig Reiter uses the Goodyear welting process, in which the upper leather, welt and sole are joined together in several steps. This technique requires around 200 to 300 manual steps per pair and allows for a high degree of flexibility in production.
The advantages of welted construction:
The brand's models are handmade. Of course, machines such as sewing and grinding machines are used in the individual steps.
If you give your shoes the care and attention they need, you will be rewarded for years to come. This is also true of Reiter shoes for men. With the right care products, these shoes will become long-lasting companions that develop a beautiful patina and a look all their own over time.
Nevertheless, shoes are constantly in use and, even with good care, may need to be refurbished after a few years. The heel and sole in particular are subject to heavy wear and tear. If the comfort of the shoes changes over time, they can of course be repaired or refurbished. One advantage of Ludwig Reiter's welted shoes for men is that they can be resoled more easily without affecting the construction of the entire shoe. In 1885, Ludwig Reiter I and his wife Anna founded a workshop in Vienna dedicated to the art of shoemaking. By 1887, the young company had already made a name for itself by supplying the 'k.u.k. Sicherheitswache' with custom-made Ludwig Reiter boots for men and officer shoes – products that impressed above all with their outstanding quality and precise workmanship.
Ludwig Reiter II was introduced to the craft of shoemaking at an early age. After learning the basics of shoemaking under his father's guidance, he set out to expand his knowledge and gain experience in the craft. During this time, he discovered the innovative Goodyear process, which uses sewing machines to produce welted shoes. This method would go on to shape the company's philosophy. Back in Vienna, Ludwig Reiter II began modernising his father's workshop. The traditional workshop evolved into a small factory specialising in the production of welted shoes using the Goodyear system.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the company gained increasing prestige and grew in popularity, not only in Vienna but also far beyond its city limits. The next milestone came in 1950 with the launch of the ‘Fox Medana’ range, which quickly became a public favourite. In 1960, Ludwig Reiter III took over management of the family business, leading the traditional brand into a new era of excellence in craftsmanship with foresight and commitment.
The company is now run by the fifth generation of the family, sisters Magdalena Reiter and Anna Reiter-Smith, and their cousin Joseph Potyka-Zeiler.
