Over 70 Years of Expertise

At the foot of the Italian Alps, in the small town of Lesa on the shores of Lake Maggiore, winters are cold and wet while summers are hot. It was here that, in the mid-20th century, young Giuseppe Marenzi came up with the idea of founding his own label: functional outdoor clothing designed to protect against unpredictable weather – rain, cold and storms. In an old factory in Lesa, situated in the fertile valley of the River Erno, he founded the company together with his wife, Alessandra Diana. The brand was inspired by the local climate as well as by the name of the river: Herno. Their aim was to produce waterproof coats and jackets that made no compromises when it came to quality, elegance and Italian style.

Herno Jackets: Function & Form

Marenzi had previously worked for a manufacturer of raincoats, where his innovative spirit led him to the idea of treating fabrics with castor oil to make them water-repellent. His ingenuity eventually turned Herno into an internationally sought-after label for luxury outerwear. The Italian brand gained further momentum at the beginning of the 21st century, when Marenzi’s son Claudio took over the company from his father. After the family business had spent some time primarily producing functional fabrics for major luxury labels, it returned to its roots, creating modern down jackets and timelessly elegant coats that ensure a confident appearance on the international stage.
