The Best of England & Italy: Barrett Shoes
Italian footwear label Barrett looks back on over a hundred years of history. When Englishman J. R. Barrett discovered the little shoemaker’s workshop "Zanlari e Tanzi" in Parma at the beginning of the 20th century, he was immediately struck by the high quality of the handmade, exceptionally comfortable shoes. The owner of a leather tannery, he dedicated his English calfskin to the workshop first and then eventually his name – the name the brand was known by when it became a must-have for Italian celebrities in the following decades. The label now has boutiques in Milan, Paris and Moscow, as well as its main shop in Parma. Production in the brand’s native Italy is as much part of Barrett's self-image as the finest craftsmanship, passed down from generation to generation.
In 1999, Barrett expanded its collection to include the 'Blu Barrett' sneaker line for men – it goes without saying that the label’s sporty shoes are made to the same exacting standards as its classic men’s lace-ups. The workshop’s assortment covers the entire spectrum of shoes, with loafers, moccasins and boots. Even today, the shoes are still handcrafted from the finest leather, with a keen eye for detail. Each pair of men’s shoes has its own unique character.
