GHOST PIECES

The removable brushed wool badge with wind rose stitching is characteristic for Stone Island's designs and has existed since the brand's founding in 1982, marking jackets, trousers, jumpers and co. as creations of the Italian sportswear label. The Ghost Piece collection works on the principle of camouflage and is strongly inspired by military style – here the iconic badge matches the colour of the background and forms a monochrome look.

Stone Island Closed Loop Project
Innovation is one of Stone Island's guiding principles. This season, the topic of sustainability is also becoming increasingly important. For the Stone Island Closed Loop Project, the sports and casualwear brand processes cotton remnants from its own production chain to create new collection pieces that are made from 50 % recycled materials. A special finish is created by pigment dyeing – a new dyeing process developed by Stone Island – in which only natural mineral colours (Tinto Terra) are used. All styles in the Capsule Collection are only available in small quantities and are labelled with a special badge.

Innovation is a fundamental part of the brand's identity, as they enthusiastically employ technical fabrics and novel finishes in their everyday Stone Island sports and casual wear. This results in a progressive, sporty, and urban look that is free from conventions yet always carries a certain level of sophistication. Their willingness to experiment with exceptional dyeing methods imparts uniqueness not only to the brand's outerwear but also to Stone Island jumpers, shirts, cargo shorts, as well as hats and caps, achieving a captivating variety of contemporary and surprising effects.

Fashion with Pioneering Spirit

The founding of the company by Massimo Osti dates back over 30 years – a long time during which it has continuously grown and benefited from accumulated expertise. In this unique field of functionally inspired fashion, Stone Island is a pioneer and an undisputed expert. With the utmost care and dedication, only styles that truly impress are selected and ultimately produced from an extensive, elaborate design process. A constant and insatiable curiosity at Stone Island is the strongest driving force in their unceasing process of inspiration. Particularly unusual techniques include fabrics that change color in response to temperature changes or those that exhibit strong reflectivity due to a glass coating. These are just a few examples of the high-tech designs from the label with a compass on its sleeve. Success came to the fashion house almost by chance during a casual experiment to test suitable fabrics for a potential collection. The attempt to wash a two-colored tarpaulin for trucks in order to create a softer feel for clothing materials resulted in a special fabric with a vintage look, which they named 'Stella.' This material was used to produce a series of men's jackets, launched under the name Stone Island, and they achieved unexpected success.

Is Stone Island Sustainable?

Even in its very first experiment, recycled material was used in the form of a truck tarpaulin. Sustainability is a personal concern for the current CEO and Creative Director, Carlo Rivetti, and continuous efforts are made in this direction. As a result, an increasing number of recycled fibres and water-saving processes are being incorporated into the design and production of Stone Island's creations.

What does the Stone Island Logo Mean?

The brand's connection to the sea is not only reflected in its name but also in the detachable compass badge, inspired by military uniform jacket insignias. It evokes the spirit of maritime adventures, freedom, and exploration. The badge is typically found on the upper arm but can occasionally be located on the chest or the side of the leg. In coveted special collections, such as the 'Stone Island Ghost Pieces', the logo patch appears monochromatic in very limited editions, making it a highly sought-after collector's item. In the 'Marina Collection,' it is presented as a stylised stitching. Military influences can be spotted in various styles, including the casual designer cargo trousers for men.
