Opening Ceremony: Cool men’s fashion from New York
2002, New York City. When they were in their mid-20s, high school buddies Carol Lim and Humberto Leon opened their own fashion studio on the outskirts of Soho to sell fashions that they and their friends had designed. What came next sounds almost like a movie plot: During the two decades of its existence, Opening Ceremony has become one of the hippest fashion labels, first in New York, then in the USA and finally all over the world. Having named their label after the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, of which they are big fans, Lim and Leon took the theme even further by dedicating their collections to a different country every year. For example, they travel through Brazil, the UK, Japan, France or Sweden, spend time there and take their impressions of culture, food and fashion back home as inspiration and incorporate them into their fashion creations – cool Opening Ceremony shoes and sneakers, sweatshirts, jeans, bags and trousers. The success of their accessible high-end fashion is justified. Collaborations with brands such as Elvis Presley Enterprises or Disney, as well as artists such as Yoko Ono, Terence Koh or Justin Peck, choreographer of the New York City Ballet, regularly result in new and surprising styles that are much sought-after among Opening Ceremony’s loyal followers. Keeping their finger firmly on the pulse, the two designers have sold their products exclusively online since 2020. You can find a current selection of contemporary fashion from Opening Ceremony here in the BRAUN Hamburg online shop.
