Department Five

Two friends with an infallible sense of aesthetic – one, Nicola Silvagni, is passionate about fashion and music; the other, Mario Cangini, runs a hip fashion boutique in Milan: And so begins the story of Department 5. Both friends felt that they discovered trends before anyone else so, in 2007, they decided to put their passion into their own label. Silvagni took on the role of creative director; Cangini was responsible for strategy. With a fusion of workwear and functional, military-inspired fashion, Department 5 sets trends with a rock attitude. Locally made in Italy from high-quality fabrics, the young label initially just launched with trousers, but now offers an extensive assortment of relaxed casual styles such as cool jackets, chinos, knitwear, shirts and denim styles, plus laid-back basics like T-shirts or long sleeves – including a women’s collection since 2010. Silvagni and Cangini get ideas for their collections from the streets of fashion capitals like London, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Paris, but also from unusual vintage clothing gathered from second-hand markets all over the world.
