The Italian family business was founded by Irma and Mario Colombo way back in 1920 as a hat and gaiter manufacturer under the name of “Manifattura Mario Colombo”. While looking for a snappier label they came up with an acronym made up of the name of the owner: Colmar. It’s fitting that the traditional business is now run by the grandson of the same name – Mario Colombo. In 1948, Colmar began equipping the Italian national skiing team with snow-proof clothing, and the first iconic down jackets like the models 'Olimpionica' and 'Guaina' were born. The ski speed record back then was broken in 1984 by a skier wearing a Colmar ski suit.
