Veja for Men: Sneakers with a Conscience

When they decided to establish their own brand in 2003, the aim of the two Frenchmen François-Ghislain Morillion and Sébastien Kopp was no less than to basically reinvent sneakers. Two years later, they launched Veja, which pretty much means “look at this!” in Portuguese. Every aspect of Veja sneakers for men and women - from raw materials to marketing - aims to be fair and sustainable. With its cool and well-conceived design, Veja is both contemporary and trans-seasonal, because the sustainable principle comes into play here too - wearers should still love their sneakers even after ten years. Thanks to their unique style with signature V initial as a logo, Veja shoes will soon become and remain a favourite. Models like the Veja V-10 or Rio Branco have already become classics and tick all the boxes for an urban look.

When Morillion and Kopp visited a conventional textile factory in China before founding Veja, one thing became clear to them: They wanted to create their own product in a new way that shook up the approach taken so far, by manufacturing their products under fair conditions and using regenerative resources. They chose the symbol of their generation, an object that accompanies every man and every women through their everyday life, day in, day out: sneakers. Sneakers are also a product that reflects globalisation in many facets - in manufacture, marketing and use. Kopp and Morillion wanted nothing less than a complete rethink - a revolution at that time. They visited rubber plantations in Brazil and found cotton farmers and production facilities that can guarantee appropriate pay and fair working conditions. This obviously increases production costs, but doing without marketing means that all the financial resources can be channelled into materials and workmanship. The leather used is vegetable tanned without using chemicals. The label uses fish leather - which is actually a waste product that gets a new life at Veja - organic cotton and recycled plastic, so the mesh of a pair of Veja shoes contains three PET bottles. Veja is always working on improvement and transparency about its approaches is extremely important to Kopp and Morillion: Veja doesn't make any false promises.
