According to founder Sandra Sandor, the essence of her label Nanushka is based on two simple cornerstones: The mix of Western and Eastern cultures, plus wearability. If a garment feels good, it is automatically beautiful. But there is definitely more to Nanushka’s breakthrough at New York Fashion Week: For example, that certain uniqueness; the fact that Sandor grew up surrounded by fashion (her mother sold children’s clothes) and intentionally gained a few years’ experience with a small boutique in Budapest, before taking the international scene by storm. With flagship stores in New York and London, Nanushka is now one of the top newcomer brands. Sustainable manufacture, 85% of which is done in Budapest, and use of alternative resources, such as vegan leather or even paper, and high-quality natural materials, such as merino wool, are as much part of the brand’s philosophy as sartorial quality, applied design and inexhaustible creativity.
Straight from London College of Fashion to her own label: Sandra Sandor used the first years after the foundation of Nanushka in 2005 to find her own way. When her partner Peter joined in 2016, Nanushka became a small family business. Despite the global alignment, the designer still draws inspiration from the culture of her home of Budapest. Her designs, including Nanushka shirts, bold jackets or short terry trousers work as overall styles but can also be worn with denim or a simple coat.
