Salvatore Ferragamo – Italian shoe designer and namesake of the company, which today is headquartered in Florence – created his very first pair of shoes at the age of nine. He went on to learn the trade in Naples, and founded his company Salvatore Ferragamo in 1898. He was seen as a visionary all his life, yet always relied on traditional style for all his designs. His wife took over the business after his death in 1960, later followed by his daughter. Salvatore Ferragamo bequeathed 350 patents. The label continues to be synonymous for luxurious fashion, shoes, luxury bags and accessories, and traditional, stylish design. Hollywood still vies for the glorious designs made in Italy.
