Polo Ralph Lauren for men
The history of the world-famous polo payer emblem adorning all Polo Ralph Lauren fashion items dates back to 1967, when Ralph Lauren, who back then was a salesman for the American fashion house Brooks Brothers, designed his very first tie collection. Ralph Lauren went on to purchase the rights for the brand “Polo” from Brooks, which was used there as their label for functional polowear.
One year later, Ralph Lauren opened his first own shop selling ties; following successful sales to some of the most exclusive boutiques in New York, the designer created his first menswear collection. The international breakthrough for the New York-based label followed in 1972: A first polo shirt collection in 24 colours featuring the striking embroidered emblem of the small rider was launched and surpassed all expectations. A great coup for the brand was the fact that Robert Redford wore Ralph Lauren in the iconic movie “The Great Gatsby”.
Ralph Lauren also likes to share his success with those less fortunate. He has created a charitable label under the name “Pink Pony”, where part of the profits go to cancer research. The unique combination of the classic sporty style of some of the elite universities along the East Coast of the United States and the manufacturing finesse with regards to cut and finish are the basis for success and the unmistakeable “preppy chic” of the label. Polo Ralph Lauren is the epitome of “American sportswear” and quickly advanced to a must-have trend in the 1980s.
Today, the label is a well established and renowned fashion and lifestyle brand.
